Retired Racing Greyhounds as Pets

Retired Racers make for excellent pets. Although they are large dogs, they are gentle and tend to spend their days napping. The term couch potato is true to form; these wonderful dogs are perfectly content to live out their retirement on your bed, couch or comfy blanket.

We adopted Sammie a few years ago from a rescue organization in Colorado. He was to be our first foster, but we fell in love with him. It's hard to say "no" to trusting brown eyes!

Many of these dogs are euthanized when their racing careers are over. It is a sad fate that waits these well-mannered animals. Various states have rescue groups and the adoption fee is well worth it. You will receive a dog that has been trained, listens to commands, and doesn't put up a fight when groomed, bathed, examined by a veterinarian or walked on a leash. They are accustomed to having their nails and ears cleaned. They do not jump up.
